You haven't been ... By: Iain1962. on 16 May 12, 20:37:07 You haven't been polite, you set out to try and disprove something that I wasn't trying to prove. Then you got all wound up and tried to score points, who cares, I don't. It makes no difference to me if you agree or not, but it certainly seems to be important to you, chill out, accept that there are things we don't know, and things that we know and don't know how to use. It took us 6000 years to figure out it was a good? idea to put wheels on a suitcase after all.

I suggest we end the discussion here. I have been polite up to this entire time, and asked you repeatedly to give specific examples and evidence, and both you never did. You? based everything you said on insults and vague criticism.
You really want to learn nothing. A sad picture indeed.

Jesus, see exactly what I mean, drool some more saliva over your keyboard. I never said anything about "being taken seriously" I don't give a flying fuck if you are interested or not, I put out some information, if you are interested fine if not then also fine, Otherwise, I really don't give a damn. Haha, talk about having your head up your arse, sheesh. Really, you should get out? more.

What is your central claim now? That Tesla was underappreciated - agreed, and that he was working on free energy, which, even if true, means nothing.
I ask you, which do you find more likely: That all laws of physics which we have found in? the course of more than 3 millennia are wrong, or that Tesla overreached himself?
Wireless power ... By: marklandynut. on 16 May 12, 12:43:42 Wireless power distribution and transfer has not been buried and certainly not sabotaged. In fact it is in wide use over very short distances in devices like transformers (made possible by Tesla), and over slightly longer distances with inductive chargers (Palm Pre for example). However, it proved impractical over long distances compared to ordinary wires. But research still continues today and may be slowly moving towards? a viable proposition.
Well you are? ... By: Iain1962. on 16 May 12, 11:29:29 Well you are? obviously will drilled, your head is well up your arse. I never said I was a super scientist, nor that Tesla was the be all and all to science, I said that his ideas had been ignored, much to society's detriment. I never said I had the answer to "free energy" nor had Tesla, but that he was exploring the possibilities, and like many other of his concepts that were rebuffed at the time and have subsequently been found to be very useful it just could be that there is something in it.

What "establishment ... By: TheGeekySkeptic. on 16 May 12, 09:43:28 What "establishment"? Are you into conspiracy theories as well now?
And, couldn't you do better than the typical "open mind" speech? Because scientists aren't impressed by every? claim, we get called close-minded. I love that one.
Here's the thing: "If you can't accept the possibility that an idea might be false, then you are the closed minded one."
I am willing to accept that Tesla's "free energy" inventions. Provided you have evidence for it. Which, although I asked repeatedly, you don't.
Yes, fascinating ... By: Iain1962. on 16 May 12, 08:21:16 Yes, fascinating discussion, I had more fun doing an autopsy on a Haddock.
You seem to be a young chap, I would encourage you to have a more open mind, try and think a little bit outside of? what the establishment tells you is right and wrong, and be a little more open to things you don't understand instead being so closed minded, life and the universe and everything is not all black and white, right and wrong, there is a tint of grey in there, and that's where innovation comes from.

Actually, I have already spent 6 years of my life learning about science, so I am always eager to learn more. Unfortunately though, this didn't prove to be one such opportunity.
If you ever feel you have more than "Tesla invented Wifi" (which he didn't, and I showed you why), feel? free to comment again. If you don't have anything else, maybe you should reexamine the validity of your Telsa-beliefs.

By: Iain1962. on 15 May 12, 13:16:27 Aspirin was around for a long time before it was picked up on that it was a good blood thinner, so who's to say that some of the concepts of Tesla we just don't realise how to use yet. One bolt of lightning contains enough power for a town for a whole year, and it comes free? from the atmosphere, if we could harness that power we wouldn't need power lines and generators and plugs and cables, or even petrol stations, cars could drive and take their power from the atmosphere, why not !?

The fact still ... By: marklandynut. on 15 May 12, 12:48:26 The fact still remains that Tesla generators do not work. They need to break some fairly fundamental laws of thermodynamics in order to? work. I believe these laws were not fully understood when Tesla did his experiments 120 years ago which is probably why he thought the design would work. These laws are now better understood and have shown Tesla was, in this case, wrong. It does not in any way degrade any of his other great achievements and there is no doubt the world is a better place for them.

Yes, the scientific community honored Tesla by awarding him the unit for the magnetic field strength. However, we are not impressed by claims of his free energy machines, because, when asked to present one, all his fans and Tesla included, aren't able to show one.
And really, that a CAR COMPANY is named after a person counts as evidence that someone is a great inventor in your books?
I rest my case then.?
blah blah blah, ... By: Iain1962. on 13 May 12, 12:32:58 blah blah blah, spend some time doing a? little more research about facts before making sweeping statements, based on ignorance, you have no clue about Tesla, the scientific community is very impressed with Tesla of course they are, google wifi electricity for a start, the Tesla car company named their company after Marconi perhaps, the Tesla unit etc etc, get your head out of the sand and learn instead of sitting around pontifictaing on something you admit you know knowthing about.

In science, rigor is of the utmost importance. The goal is not no learn, but to see if what we learned is actually correct! Every claim must withstand a whole battery of arguments, shooting holes in it. Only if it withstands that, do we consider it worthwhile.
And this is why the scientific community is not impressed by claims of Tesla's superinventions.
Well I'm sorry I ... By: Iain1962. on 13 May 12, 08:24:44 Well I'm sorry I don't meet your standards, I am not really interested in getting in a pernickity argument with somebody whose obvious intent is not to learn anything but to try and pick holes in what the other person is saying. If you can't grasp the concept that Tesla was way ahead of his time and that his inventions and discoveries have been pased over or stolen and that we are only now? catching up with him, then fine, you win, hope you are happy, I know differently as time will tell.

I've looked up at the definition of the word "racist". and it has nothing to do with? someone who wants to protect his lands & heritage from invadors. To me, if the means of production are under state ownership and/or control, that's socialism. If the state has the power to (forcefully) tax you (under a *social* excuse), its socialism by definition, because it implies that state owns you, your labor, etc, and simply decides how much you're allowed to keep, and what of your personal freedoms you may have.
Even if some countries make socialism work to a degree, its still inefficient and immoral.

And to blame ... By: historypoliticsbb. on 09 Apr 12, 03:20:35 And to blame Zimbabwe's problems? on its military rather than transnational corporations is laughable.
I never argued for ... By: historypoliticsbb. on 09 Apr 12, 03:17:42 I never argued for 'no governance'? or 'no law enforcement' (strawmen 1 and 2), you don't seem to want anyone to criticise your precious government which you will compare to China and Zimbabwe in? order to defend (pretty low bar, don't you think?). I quote:
'I hate all this crap about 'freedom'.' - Yeah that horrible thing.
'We are one of the most 'free' nations on earth.' - LOOOOOOOL
'You're freer than people in China, who can't? access Youtube at all; ' - I guess he should just shut up then.
Look. The first guy ... By: DrownedBeliefs. on 09 Apr 12, 03:03:56 Look. The first guy said 'Fuck the government' in that he wanted rid of it. YOU quite clearly said 'Get rid of the police and military'. My argument is clearly not 'we're not China or Zimbabwe' (Which is the only strawman here), but that a system of no? Governance is idiotic, and that a system of no law enforcement is just as idiotic. If that's not apparent, and you just want to talk about bloody Congo until you're blue in the face, then I'm wasting my time talking to you.
Epic, epic strawmen ... By: historypoliticsbb. on 08 Apr 12, 23:57:08 Epic, epic strawmen you didn't respond to my specific point on the Congo/IMF/World Bank because you can't. Tyrannical governments depend on police and military.
The positive contributions of the these institutions clearly are outweighted by the negative globally, (you somehow miss the point that the US and UK military replaced the Iraqi military and police).
I was right, your argument is, 'we're not? China or Zimbabwe therefore keep the status quo'.
That's the only thing you're arguing for.
You need to ... By: DrownedBeliefs. on 08 Apr 12, 13:15:58 You need to understand that supporting getting rid of the police and military in the inherent definition of removing government as both are groups empowered by the state to PRESERVE that Government. As history has demonstrated countless times, removing the government creates a militaristic government, and removing the military creates an terrorist rule. If you think either suggestions are? the way forward, you are merely ignorant of History, and shouldn't be watching a politician like Hannan.
You can't do away ... By: DrownedBeliefs. on 08 Apr 12, 13:11:19 You can't do away with the government (which the? first guy argued for) OR the form of administering government (which you argue for by saying 'Get rid of the police and military'). For a prominent example, look at Zimbabwe, once the British colony Rhodesia. In some ways it is the opposite of Iraq, but the situation there is still dire, with mass inflation and corruption. Because there is no Government to ADMINISTER the military, it BECOMES the government. Mugabe is their military's puppet.
Get rid of the ... By: DrownedBeliefs. on 08 Apr 12, 13:07:27 Get rid of the police and military? Oh lord, I can't believe you actually think this is reasonable. What do you think Iraq was all about, you darned fool? The military and police were de-established, as they? were believed to be loyal to Saddam (who was removed without valid cause). We were then forced to occupy the country and train a whole new police and military force. Terror group Al Qaeda rose to prominence . That's what you want? Clearly, they've FANTASTIC living standards in Iraq, right?
(cont.) I apologise ... By: historypoliticsbb. on 07 Apr 12, 23:51:42 (cont.) I apologise if I misjudged your position, I simply found your comment about not complaining? because they have it worse in China, ridiculous.
How is telling me ... By: historypoliticsbb. on 07 Apr 12, 23:48:12 How is telling me to get on a plane to Congo an argument of any merit whatsoever? And if you can show me where I support 'lack of government' I would be grateful.
In any case, the only reason Congo is a hellhole is because the government made deals with the IMF and World Bank to allow foreign corporations to rape its resources, and this? is enabled by the police and military enforcing the policies.
Get rid of the police and military, and the people would be back in charge soon enough.
What is being ... By: DrownedBeliefs. on 07 Apr 12, 20:18:35 What is being discussed is? completely irrelevant to ANY of the countries mentioned. Not only that, but my point was in response to someone advocating NO governance - anarchy. High living standards come from a fair and democratised system of government, not some anarchic pipe dream. Don't believe me? Practise what you preach, and get on a plane to the bloody Congo. Show me where the lack of government intervention there has begotten a magical harmony where everybody has perfect living standards.
Why should those ... By: historypoliticsbb. on 07 Apr 12, 17:44:45 Why should those ungrateful Chinese (hundreds of protests weekly) complain, they have it so good compared to the people in Egypt.
Why should those people in Egypt complain, they have it so good compared to the people of Burkina Faso, who have it better than the people of Congo.
Your position leads to justifying lower and lower living standards, until you reach the lowest common denominator.
We should fight for the best? living standards available.
If you don't want to, you can f*ck off.
You have self ... By: DrownedBeliefs. on 03 Apr 12, 12:15:06 You have self governence TO THE POINT? WHERE it does not infringe on the rights of others as guarunteed by law - this is the concept known as a 'Social Contract'. Libertarians believe in minimalisation of the state, and MORE self governence, but not one would tell you they don't already have it in abundance in comparison with other countries, and non would tell you they don't want ANY government. Self governence with NO government restraint by laws or rules, i.e. anarchy, is just puerile.

By: DrownedBeliefs. on 03 Apr 12, 09:03:29 You can carry on with this rent-a-quote rhetoric all you want, all it highlights is your sense of teenage self-entitlement and your complete departure from any sort of reality. Your argument is essentially 'YEAH, FUCK THE GOVERNMENT'; you don't present any sort of achievable target or aim to IMPROVE the government, you suggest merely removing it. You're freer than people in China, who can't access Youtube at all; why use that freedom to watch a? politician if you don't believe in a government?

I hate all this ... By: DrownedBeliefs. on 03 Apr 12, 07:48:52 I hate all this crap about 'freedom'. We are one of the most 'free' nations on earth. Millions would do anything just to be here, hence the surge of immigration in recent years. What we DO? have is unrepresentative government. This doesn't make it obselete, it simply means we need a GOOD government. A proportionally representative government, answerable to the citizen via minimalisation of government roles.

By: Iain1962. on 02 Apr 12, 18:22:28 Tax is very important, not income tax that amounts to a drop in the bucket, it's the stealth taxes the duty on whisky and beer and cigarettes and petrol, the council builds a new road for the big new supermarket, but they won't fix the pavement in front of the small shop? that's a tax, the community subsidises the supermarket but the corner shop pays for it. The government, and presumably the people, want freedom of action in the world. Not to be told what to do by outsiders.
Political freedom is still a relatively new in Russia. It will take time to 'sink in' (if it does). There was democracy in Russia from February 1917 to October 1917-until the Bolsheviks put an end to it.
Furthermore,it depends on how one defines 'freedom.' Look at the West today. All those 'special rights' means less freedom for everyone else.

Free in terms of the government being able to do what it wants to do. I would add, the people too. Much has changed in Russia, much has not. By: Bluehero345. on 20 Mar 12, 00:02:39 Hannan did support Obama during the election...but if you look at some of Obama's rhetoric, that made sense: Obama ran on a(mostly) fiscally conservative platform, with the exception of some of his tax policies. For Hannan, whose biggest? political point is classical liberalism, leading to economic prosperity, that line makes a lot of sense, and its much easier for a foreign politician, who doesn't have access to all aspects of our media, to just get that side of Obama without the opposition.

You haven't been polite, you set out to try and disprove something that I wasn't trying to prove.
By: TheGeekySkeptic. on 16 May 12, 17:59:07
Yes, very convincing. When speaking nonsense, at least check it before writing it. If you really didn't give a damn if people take you seriously, you wouldn't bother typing all your comments I suggest we end the discussion here. I have been polite up to this entire time, and asked you repeatedly to give specific examples and evidence, and both you never did. You? based everything you said on insults and vague criticism. You really want to learn nothing. A sad picture indeed. Good day sir
By: Iain1962. on 16 May 12, 16:07:44
"THIS is why people like you aren't taken seriously." Jesus, see exactly what I mean, drool some more saliva over your keyboard. I never said anything about "being taken seriously" I don't give a flying fuck if you are interested or not, I put out some information, if you are interested fine if not then also fine, Otherwise, I really don't give a damn. Haha, talk about having your head up your arse, sheesh. Really, you should get out? more.
By: TheGeekySkeptic. on 16 May 12, 15:36:51
So just because I don't agree with you, I am "will drilled" and my "head is well up my arse". See, THIS is why people like you aren't taken seriously. What is your central claim now? That Tesla was underappreciated - agreed, and that he was working on free energy, which, even if true, means nothing. I ask you, which do you find more likely: That all laws of physics which we have found in? the course of more than 3 millennia are wrong, or that Tesla overreached himself?
By: marklandynut. on 16 May 12, 12:43:42
Wireless power distribution and transfer has not been buried and certainly not sabotaged.
By: Iain1962. on 16 May 12, 11:29:29
Well you are? obviously will drilled, your head is well up your arse.
By: Fre2Doom. on 16 May 12, 10:52:46
unconventional oil (shale,? tar sands etc.) production is quite a bit more expensive, so the oil produced this way will be pricier than conventional oil. its not going to become cheaper. it applies to gas as well.
By: TheGeekySkeptic. on 16 May 12, 09:43:28
What "establishment"? Are you into conspiracy theories as well now? And, couldn't you do better than the typical "open mind" speech? Because scientists aren't impressed by every? claim, we get called close-minded. I love that one. Here's the thing: "If you can't accept the possibility that an idea might be false, then you are the closed minded one." I am willing to accept that Tesla's "free energy" inventions. Provided you have evidence for it. Which, although I asked repeatedly, you don't.
By: Iain1962. on 16 May 12, 08:21:16
Yes, fascinating discussion, I had more fun doing an autopsy on a Haddock.

Thank you. My case does actually rest well, as you have yet to make yours. Till then, Cheerio
By: Iain1962. on 15 May 12, 13:16:27
Aspirin was around for a long time before it was picked up on that it was a good blood thinner, so who's to say that some of the concepts of Tesla we just don't realise how to use yet. One bolt of lightning contains enough power for a town for a whole year, and it comes free? from the atmosphere, if we could harness that power we wouldn't need power lines and generators and plugs and cables, or even petrol stations, cars could drive and take their power from the atmosphere, why not !?
By: Iain1962. on 15 May 12, 13:12:43
Gracious what a can of worms I opened here, I am not saying that tesla was right about everything. But like every visionary he was years ahead of his time so much so that hhis inventions were considered science fiction at the time, as we have caught up yes some things have found uses other not depending on our evelving technology, his wireless? distribution of electricity concept was tested and worked before it was sabotaged and buried. cont...
By: marklandynut. on 15 May 12, 12:48:26
The fact still remains that Tesla generators do not work.

Good I hope your case rests well, I am not wasting my time on your? attempts to win something that was never an argument. If you are interested in science, learn more if you are not sit there spouting, I see no point in pursing this discussion.
By: TheGeekySkeptic. on 14 May 12, 16:57:19
Before posting such whiny comments, at least READ what I wrote.
By: Iain1962. on 13 May 12, 12:32:58
blah blah blah, spend some time doing a? little more research about facts before making sweeping statements, based on ignorance, you have no clue about Tesla, the scientific community is very impressed with Tesla of course they are, google wifi electricity for a start, the Tesla car company named their company after Marconi perhaps, the Tesla unit etc etc, get your head out of the sand and learn instead of sitting around pontifictaing on something you admit you know knowthing about.
By: TheGeekySkeptic. on 13 May 12, 10:59:59
See? Again you are not giving one specific example. The reason I believe is that you have none, and I believe this should tell? you something.
By: Iain1962. on 13 May 12, 08:24:44
Well I'm sorry I don't meet your standards, I am not really interested in getting in a pernickity argument with somebody whose obvious intent is not to learn anything but to try and pick holes in what the other person is saying. If you can't grasp the concept that Tesla was way ahead of his time and that his inventions and discoveries have been pased over or stolen and that we are only now? catching up with him, then fine, you win, hope you are happy, I know differently as time will tell.
