Deflation would serve to clean out malinvestment restore at least some of the value of the currency that was destroyed. 1839-1843 is a case in point. Investment was somewhat lower than normal in that period, as it should be given the years of inflation that preceded the period, but general prosperity increased. The deflation was a necessary result of the bubbles that were created in the 1820s and 30s. Yes, inflation occurred at that? time, if less severe.

If capital is diverted away from the private sector the private sector will shrink by that much, and the reallocation of those resources to sustainable lines of production will be delayed as long as the stimulus project lasts. Stimulus is nothing more than a waste of scarce resources.
