With the exception of the Balloon Fight level (where health was expressed in balloons), the health bar worked the same for each level (giving the impression that in Abobo's Big Adventure, it would work the same throughout).
If it had suddenly disappeared in the Contra level, I would have grasped the one-hit kill sooner. Abobo may be heading through levels inspired by other games, but until Contra it was not clear the health system changed.
