Along with FF7 and Chrono Cross this is my favorite game of all time.
You can reach the Black Looper by entering the Dark Rift from the Yafutoman side. The Black Looper is the single hardest monster battle in the entire game, able to do massive damage with magic like Pyrulen, and regular attacks that can hit for 2000+ in addition to silencing.
