I would cut a wooden skewer about a quarter of an inch and miro drill or burn a small hole in the end of it and cement a small? pin inside of it. The skewer stick is just the right size for the Playmobil hands and no tape would be needed to hold it. You could stain and varnish the handle and it would look just grand.

Almost every Playmobil cowboy, native or soldier sold in the 70s/80s included such a rifle. Also the british guards which belong to Playmobil's pirate line included musket like rifles (even with bayonets). And finally there are the single packs of a union and confederate infantry man (sold around 2005) both including a musket with bayonet. Think I have more than 50 Playmobil muskets in my collection.

Rebel that the Union soldiers would take out. They could reload their rifles twice as fast from years of practice in the back country.
The Union soldiers were mostly city boys that had nver used a gun. Unfortunately for the Confederates was that supplies were cut off from them and they were running out of men. They crafted guns from brass bells and buttons.

If you need to have medieval knights to represent the Gauls, there is something wrong with their products line. It was rather ok when I was a kid, but nowadays it seems to be very limited. And the story line is correct. Caesar had to pull? back forces until reinforcements made the vercingetorix of the Gauls decide to shelter and starve his army in the city of Alesia, which led to his downfall.
